Our 2023

Wow, what a smash 2023 has been! We took in a record number of surrenders, and another great fundraising year – over $5000 donated, not including the money raised for Ace’s cancer removal eye surgery!

Here’s how the year went:

2023 Intake Stats:
– Accepted 12 owner surrenders
(and had to turn away an additional 10 horses due to lack of funding)
– 0 horses rescued at auction
– 0 horses needed humane euthanasia
(1 horse passed away naturally about one month after being adopted)

Our surrender program allows us to be there for horses BEFORE they ever make it to auction, and we always prioritize keeping some spots for these horses. In August 2023, we brought back 4 horses from the same owner! We wish we never had to say “No” to any horse, but your donation means we can say “Yes“!

It is with great pride that we were able to help 11 horses find homes this year (some are pictured below), and admitted 3 horses to our Sanctuary program due to their very advanced age and limiting conditions.

– 6 in continued care from previous years

This year was a bit slower in terms of adoptions, we have a few horses that did not find homes by the end of this year. Our updated Adoption Agreement/Contract requires regular updates on our rescues and we love hearing how well the horses are doing in their new lives. We maintained 6 horses from previous years: Griffy, Gus and Zeus from 2022, Vernon a permanent resident, and Venus and Flynn from 2021.

We helped 25 horses this year, and have rescued 50 special lives since 2020!

In 2024 we plan to continue with fewer equines at a time so we can give the excellent standard of care we pride ourselves on. We will also be offering horses as soon as they can accomplish basic handling skills, versus putting several months of training in before they become available. Now that we have 4 horses in our Sanctuary program, that leaves fewer remaining spots for horses in need – the more donations we receive, the more animals we can help! We can’t do it without you!
