2024 has been a slower year – we intended to focus on less horses at a time but were unprepared for how few we would be able to help due to a low rate of adoptions. What was very exciting was another great fundraising year, including specific funding needs for Willow’s pregnancy and hay costs and our Animal Control case, Whinny’s refeeding costs. Our donors made it possible to sustain the rescues while they waited for amazing forever homes!
Here’s how the year went:
2024 Intake Stats:
– Accepted 2 owner surrenders, and 3 re-surrenders due to owner change in health or finances.
– Had to turn away 17 horses in need due to lack of funding
– 1 horse (+ unborn foal) rescued at auction
Our surrender program allows us to be there for horses BEFORE they ever make it to auction, and we always prioritize keeping some spots for these horses. We wish we never had to say “No” to any horse, but your donation means we can say “Yes“!
It is with great pride that we were able to help 7 horses find homes this year (some are pictured below), and admitted 1 horse to our Sanctuary program due to their very advanced age and limiting conditions.

2024 Totals:
– 7 horses rehomed
– 3 in continued care from previous years
With great sadness we had 2 horses pass over the rainbow bridge this year. Strawberry was humanely euthanized due to the advancement of her EPM and arthritis. In short, her extreme ataxia was causing her to injure herself and her quality of life declined significantly. We also lost Gus (rescued in 2022) due to a freak pasture accident and he passed naturally.
We maintained 3 horses from previous years: Zeus from 2022, and Vernon (2020) and Ebony (2023) who are permanent residents.
We helped 17 horses this year through our facility, and have rescued 56 special lives since 2020!
In 2025 we plan to continue with fewer equines at a time so we can continue to give the excellent standard of care we pride ourselves on. Refeeding cases like Whinny’s involve around the clock care, feeding every 2-4 hours and we can only provide this resource when we have fewer cases at a time. We would like to engage additional help on the farm with maintenance and training but can only do so with financial support from our wonderful community. In addition, several of our buildings were damaged in Storm Debby and Hurricane Helene, and we need to fund those repairs this year as well.
Above all, the number of horses we can help is directly tied to donations and adoptions. Please give so that we can say YES to horses in need instead of turning them away, risking their future.
