Our Story

Grace (our Founder and Lead Trainer) grew up in the city, and with a 45-minute drive to the nearest stables, riding lessons did not become a regular activity until she attended a summer camp at the age of 10. She was determined to become an expert in all things ‘horse’ and checked out every single equine-related book from the local library (this was before the internet!), learning about horse anatomy, riding and training techniques from field experts, page by page.

The dream of owning her own horse wasn’t realized until 20 years later, but she continued riding, learning different disciplines, and attended University, graduating with a degree in Communication Studies. Grace worked several marketing jobs before landing at a large nonprofit organization, raising money for hospital equipment. She had no idea that one day she would be able to open her own Nonprofit to help the very animals she spent a lifetime loving.

Fast forward to 2018, Grace purchased her first horse with the goal of pursuing Mounted Archery of all things! Huck was an Appendix, and sold to Grace as a green 4 year old – but he ended up being only 2 and a half, and much more green than anticipated. Huck was boarded nearby, and the journey began.

Grace wasn’t happy with the care and training style at that barn, and was able to move Huck home in 2019, to the very first property where RH Farm was born. Huck needed a friend, so enter – Hiccup! A 12.2hh paint Hackney Pony who became the very first Rescue at the farm. When Covid happened, Grace’s neighbors kept asking if she gave riding lessons, and she took on her first students as a way to help support the rescue mission.

Many horse auctions, Craigslist ads, and surrenders later, Grace has helped over 100 horses through rescue and training efforts, and taught several hundred students with a focus on horse welfare, and the value of rescue horses. Huck has since passed, but he began a movement of Positive Training that has helped horses all over the state, and inspired 2 Mustang Makeovers!
