Update: Griffy continues to gain weight but is incredibly buddy sour. We cannot take him away from his fieldmates without him fidgeting, circling, or frequently, rearing. He appears to have some sensitivity to his poll area and will set back if he feels pressure while tied up.
Griffy’s pasterns are not smooth and we suspected potential osselets but X-rays have shown that it’s simply reformed tissue (likely from an old superficial injury) and will not affect his soundness now or in the future.!
Update: Griffy has tested Negative for Strangles but will not begin retraining as his hooves need time to regrow. We have him in special shoes and casts to help him be comfortable while his hoof grows back.
Update: Griffy seems to have been patient zero for the Strangles virus, discovered while he was in quarantine. He will be separated for at least 6 weeks until he tests negative.
Griffy was rescued at auction and seemed sore on his front feet. He promptly tore off HALF of his right front hoof – he will need specialty care and a full year to regrow the foot.
