Our 2022

This past year was a record in many respects when it came to our rescue efforts. We had our highest dollar amount of donations come in, and rescued a record number of horses!

Here’s how the year went:

2022 Intake Stats:
-8 horses surrendered
-3 horses rescued at auction
-1 mustang challenge

With prices rising we understand horse owners are making the difficult choice between their animals and their family – we want to be there for the horses BEFORE they ever make it to auction, and our surrender program allows owners to bring their horses here so we can retrain and adopt them into new, loving homes. In late Spring 2022 we accepted 6 surrenders within the span of about six weeks! We unfortunately had to turn away several surrenders over the summer because we were completely full..we can only support as many horses as there are donations to pay for their rehabilitation and care.

It is with great pride that we were able to rehome 5 of the 8 surrenders! 2 have stayed with us for a bit longer to receive extra training and learn to be lesson horses, and 1 was humanely euthanized due to a chronic and debilitating health issue. We received 2 grants from Horse Plus Humane Society to help with gelding a stallion surrender, and the necessary euthanasia of the horse in chronic pain.

-14 horses adopted
-4 in continued care from 2021

We were able to place a record 14 horses in new homes in 2022, some are pictured above. We are so excited for their bright futures, and regularly receive updates from their owners on how much they love their rescue horse. We maintained 4 horses from previous years; 2 permanent residents (Vernon and Sunshine) from 2020, and 2 rescues (Flynn and Venus) from 2021. A total of 22 horses helped this year at RH Farm!

We also hit a milestone this year – we marked 40 horses rescued since we opened RH Farm in 2020! As amazing as that is, we are not untouched by rising costs and are planning to scale down our herd in 2023 so we can continue to provide an excellent standard of care for the equines at our facility. However, the more donations received, the more animals we can help!
